Hobbywing XeRun AXE 540L / 550 R2 Sensored Brushless Motor
The XeRun AXE 540L and 550 R2 are Hobbywing's purpose-built FOC brushless motors for rock crawling and trail driving. Using Field-Oriented Control technology, these motors deliver super-linear throttle response, high torque from a dead stop, and near-silent operation — everything a serious crawler driver needs on technical terrain. IP67 waterproof and dust-proof, they handle whatever the trail throws at them.
Key Features
- FOC Technology – Super-linear throttle response, high torque output, and extreme silence — the gold standard for rock crawling motor control
- IP67 Waterproof & Dustproof – Fully sealed for all-weather and all-terrain use, including water crossings and muddy trails
- Built-in High-Precision Magnetic Encoder – Provides more precise and consistent rotor position data to the ESC than standard Hall-type sensors — Hobbywing calls this "Polarity Protection"
- Ultra-Low Cogging – 4-pole, 12-magnet design with Hobbywing's patented "staggered pole" rotor for ultra-low torque ripple and smooth low-speed operation with zero cogging
- Intelligent Torque & Speed Closed-Loop Control – Maintains consistent motor RPM under varying loads for predictable crawling performance
- Innovative Sensor Port Design – Plug-and-screw connector with silicone O-ring sealing prevents loosening and improves waterproofing at the sensor connection
- High Driving Efficiency – FOC sensors deliver significant efficiency improvements over standard brushless setups for longer battery life per run

Which Motor Should You Choose?
- 540L 2100KV – Maximum torque for slow technical crawling — best for competition-style rock crawling on 2–3S
- 540L 2300KV – All-round choice for trail driving and moderate crawling on 2–3S
- 540L 2800KV – Higher speed for trail bashing and faster terrain on 2–3S
- 550 R2 3300KV – More torque in a longer can for heavier 1/10–1/8 scale crawler builds on 2–3S
Compatibility
- Compatible with Hobbywing XeRun AXE v1.1 ESC and AXE Plus R3 ESC only
- 1/10 scale rock crawlers and trail trucks (540L)
- 1/10–1/8 scale rock crawlers (550 R2)
- Popular platforms: Axial SCX10, Traxxas TRX-4, Redcat Gen9, and other standard 540/550 motor mount builds
Important: The XeRun AXE series is a closed system. These motors work exclusively with Hobbywing XeRun AXE v1.1 or AXE Plus R3 ESCs. Do not use with other ESC brands. After use in harsh conditions, dismantle and clean the motor and apply lubricant to the bearings.
The AXE 540L uses Hobbywing's patented "staggered pole" rotor design with 4 poles and 12 magnets, delivering ultra-low torque ripple and smooth low-speed operation with zero cogging — critical for precise rock crawling control.
The XeRun AXE motor line is available in 540L (2100KV / 2300KV / 2800KV) and 550 R2 (3300KV) to match different crawler setups, gearing preferences, and terrain types.
FOC technology delivers significantly higher driving efficiency compared to standard brushless setups — less heat, more run time per charge, and consistent performance throughout the battery pack.
IP67 waterproof and dustproof sealing means the AXE 540L handles rain, mud, stream crossings, and dusty trails without hesitation — built for all-weather, all-terrain use.
The built-in high-precision magnetic encoder provides more accurate and consistent rotor position signals to the ESC than standard Hall-type sensors — Hobbywing's "Polarity Protection" ensures reliable three-phase signal consistency.
The innovative plug-and-screw sensor port with silicone O-ring sealing prevents the connector from loosening during rough terrain use and maintains waterproofing at the sensor connection point.
